Celebrate the holidays with the Downtown Austin Alliance. We bring the magic of the season downtown for you and your family. Join us and KUT/KUTX for our 28th annual Holiday Stroll & Sing-Along from 5pm to 10pm on December 3 for free, family-friendly y’alliday cheer. There will be a festival, market, local food and more to enjoy while we light our giant tree on the edge of the Capitol Grounds. Take a sneak peek at the Holiday Passport and shop local for your gifts this season to win prizes.
Dust off the Santa hat and reindeer antlers and kick off the 2022 holiday season at the 28th annual Downtown Austin Alliance Holiday Stroll and tree lighting with the KUT/KUTX Sing-Along on Saturday, December 3. The event is FREE and welcomes all ages.
The Downtown Stroll begins at 5pm and features a holiday market with local artisan vendors, photo opportunities with Santa Claus, local food trucks and live music performances from HipHop Live and Superfonicos.
At 6pm the crowd will gather in front of the 45-foot Christmas tree at the south edge of the Capitol lawn to sing the songs of the season, led by KUT and KUTX hosts Elizabeth McQueen, Miles Bloxson, Diedre Gott, Susan Castle, Laurie Gallardo, Jacquie Fuller and Taylor Wallace. Complimentary keepsake song books will be available to attendees while supplies last.
The Holiday Sing-Along will include a tribute to longtime KUT and KUTX personality John Aielli who started the event in the 1980s and recently passed in July.
At 7pm, countdown the lighting of the downtown holiday tree with us. The tree features 137,000 LED lights and rotates through a programmed light show with music. The tree will stay up throughout the month of December playing holiday songs at the top and bottom of every hour featuring some of Austin´s favorite musicians, including Willie Nelson, Asleep at the Wheel, Dale Watson, Vallejo and others.
The Central Texas Food Bank is this year´s Downtown Stroll nonprofit of choice. They will be onsite at 10th and Congress accepting monetary donations. Every dollar donated provides four meals to keep Central Texans fed.
Once again, the Downtown Alliance is offering the Holiday Passport, a digital guide from Small Business Saturday through the first week on January that makes it fun and easy to explore downtown and support local shops and restaurants.
