Isla de Caras (Argentina)
Isla de Caras is a psychedelic pop project from Buenos Aires, Argentina, formed in 2017 commanded by composer and musician Lautaro Cura. Since then, Isla de Caras has been releasing hypnotic tracks that led the band to be part of the Lollapalooza lineup in 2018. “Chango” (2018), their first album, was reissued in 2020 by the Japanese label P-Vine, and described as a “South American masterpiece, an indie-pop paradise” on the trays of Tower Records Tokyo.
In 2020, Isla de Caras began sharing “Una Caricia”, their second album of first singles, “Partenaire”, “Su Carita”, “Idiota” with the Mexican artist Vanessa Zamora, and “Chica del Verano”, with the Argentine Clara Cava. Frederico7 (BRA/Austin)
Brazilian Austinite & soul rocker Frederico7 has been making waves since 2019 when his debut album Exótico Americano charted #1 in the North American World Music Radio charts. Rolling Stone magazine took notice declaring it “A delicious cocktail of bossa, soul, funk & dub with a dash of psychedelia”.
After releasing two powerful songs in 2021 fueled by the universality of love, loss, mental illness and the search for truth within, an English album with his trademark Brazilian psychedelic pop sound is scheduled for release next Spring. An outstanding band with immigrant musicians from around the globe, Frederico7 is at the forefront of international music made in Austin.
Atalhos (Brazil)
ATALHOS is a dreampop duo from Brazil. The new and long-awaited album “A Tentação do Fracasso” will be released on March 11th and is ready to conquer new audiences, in addition to showcasing at SXSW the band will be part of Treefort Music Fest (Boise, ID) and The Freakout WEEKENDER (Seattle, WA).
Creating dreamlike landscapes like portals to other dimensions, ATALHOS´ new album is designed to feel like the atmospheric road trip of a lifetime. ATALHOS sound feels like an atmospheric road trip: lots of guitar picks, layers of synths, and drum loops that lead the listener to another dimension. It reveals a dreamlike landscape and a profound immersion with reflexive and sentimental lyrics. It´s an album both profoundly transportive and wholly immersive as its 8 songs ebb-and-flow with an ephemeral fluidity and a subtle grandeur. The album was produced by Gabriel Soares (Atalhos) and Ives Sepulveda (The Holydrug Couple) and recorded between São Paulo, Santiago, and Buenos Aires (at the classic Studio Panda). Also, the album was mastered in Sterling Sound by Greg Calbi (Bruce Springsteen, The War On Drugs, Tame Impala etc). Finally, they will play in Austin.
Tagua Tagua (Brasil)
Based in Sao Paulo and formed in 2017, Tagua Tagua is headed by songwriter and producer Felipe Puperi.
Felipe – having fronted Wannabe Jalva for several years – has a somewhat extensive indie-sh resume, having played at Lollapalooza, supported shows for Pearl Jam and Jack White; got featured on The NY Times, Stereogum, Brooklyn Vegan and WFUV.
Tagua Tagua makes a name for himself as one of the most promising acts in Brazilian music nowadays – intertwining tropical psychedelia, the principles of ye ye ye and the influence of funk and soul figures.
Besides being praised and touring extensively in Brazil, Felipe has been starting to get some attention overseas. They´ve been featured on NPR, Remezcla and KCRW; got a song placed on the soundtrack of FIFA 20; also had the chance to support The Growlers for a couple of shows and to tour around Europe a few times.
After putting out 2 EPs, Tagua Tagua released his debut LP “Inteiro Metade” (2020) – dominated by supple melodies and dreamlike timbres, all songs have been written and recorded pretty much by Felipe himself, mixed by fellow `Wannabe Jalva´ Tiago Abrahão and mastered by Brian Lucey (The Black Keys, Chet Faker).
