Join artist José Villalobos and the Mexic-Arte Education Department as we host our next Media Mixer on Wednesday Nov. 18th, from 6pm-8:00pm CST as a part of our current exhibition, ELA 25 Interseccion: Choque & Alivio, Intersection: Shock & Relief. In his work, Villalobos protests the toxicity of machismo through the use of objects, specifically within the norteno culture, that carry a history by deconstructing and altering them. For this lesson, Jose Villalobos will personally instruct 15 in person visitors, and 25 streaming spots via Zoom on the process of casting and mold making which is a key element in Villalobos' body of work. The event is free for members and $10 for non-members. All art materials will be provided by Mexic-Arte Museum, and available for pickup at our gift shop. Due to COVID-19 safety precautions, space is limited and will be on a first come first serve basis until spots are filled. Sign up today and let us know if you will join in person or virtually using the link below!
About the program: Mexic-Arte Museum's Media Mixer workshops, are a series of informal adult art-making and discussion classes for all skill levels. Artists are invited by the museum to create a workshop or lecture around current exhibit works and themes. Media Mixers are a unique opportunity for members of the community to get up close and personal with professional artists and their work as well as learn about art making techniques. Media Mixers are open to the public with the price of admission and always free to members. Admission includes all materials for the workshop as well as refreshments (if on site). Media Mixers are the perfect environment to wind down, network with fellow creatives, and discover new ways to express yourself.
