The Bonneville is an upscale casual, classic New American Bistro, offering a variety of dining options that change according to the seasonality of ingredients.

Chef owned and operated, The Bonneville is a bright, open and inviting spot with a lively bar, wonderfully friendly service, and cozy corners…..a casual, comfortable place to grab a quick bite or linger over dinner.

The Bonneville is run by the husband and wife team of Chris Hurley and Jennifer Costello. We’re originally from Boston, where we worked for some of the best chefs and restaurants in the area including Rialto, Oleana, Mistral, The Blue Room, Caffe Umbra and more. Although we’re both classically trained in French technique, our style draws on influences from across the globe, focusing on the quality, accessibility and availability of ingredients to drive the menu.

  1. I have been eating here once a week for the last three years: always a genuinely professional hospitality experience with the touch of small, independent (yet very experienced) business owners. Aside from the carefully prepared dishes (chicken under a brick in its many incarnations, mussels, steak, soups – incredible soups, incredible salads, fried pasta, etc.), it’s an open and welcoming dining environment with a great front-of-the-house staff and a team in the kitchen that is very, very good with flavors. Brunch is a must do: the food tastes even better than the pictures make it look, which is very difficult if you look on their online pages (Mothers’ Day brunch last year was phenomenal). This place does not market itself ‘hard’ as is common in our city; instead, the owners keep a genuine / tried-and-tested approach to their products, their customers, and the vibe of the team up front.

  4. I stopped in for Sunday brunch with some friends and it was really a pleasant meal. For some reason this block of Caesar Chavez is always a little quiet and The Bonneville was no exception- but it shouldn’t be so.

The restaurant is picturesquely located with the river directly south and numerous floor to ceiling windows provide plentiful sunlight and shimmering views of the water. My meal was relaxed and charming, neighborhood like, and was a welcomed tone just a block from the hustle and bustle of almost corporate downtown.

The bacon tater tots were amazing, no dipping sauce needed, and their salty, savory flavor balanced nicely with deliciously sweet bananas foster french toast. The coffee was smooth and well roasted and served with full cream on the side- a welcomed treat not always available even in the nicest of restaurants. Breakfast cocktails topped off the meal and social occasion to perfection.

I’ll definitely be back for brunch and am eager to try a happy hour or an evening meal- I imagine sunsets look incredible along the river and setting to the West.

  5. I dined here on a Wednesday night with a group of 10. I was from Atlanta & had a client dinner. We ordered appetizers to start – gouda & bacon and egg ravioli. We also ordered a Margherita pizza. All of them were great! the gouda was very flavorful, the pizza was thick and had lots of flavor to it, & the ravioli was different (not a typical looking ravioli) but very good. Then we ordered salads – i had a simple salad and that was probably the only thing i didn’t really like. it had a very bitter taste. I then ordered the pork chop, which i highly recommend. the flavor used to cook the meat was wonderful! it came with some rice in some sort of sauce, which was delightful. we then ordered dessert for the table – smores dish, salted caramel tart & almond cake. i tried all but the almond cake and both were delicious. i definitely would return to this restaurant. the food was wonderful & atmosphere was nice.

  6. We came to Austin on a little food vacay thanksgiving weekend. We started off trying to make it into Lamberts down the street, but when we got there we were told they weren’t serving outside of at the bar, which only seated 9 people.

Deciding we didn’t want to wait, we stumbled on this gem on yelp and I think we ended up better off for it. After our experience at Lamberts we called ahead to make sure they were open and serving, and even though they weren’t they said come on down, we’ll have some drinks for you and the kitchen will open in like 45.

Best bit of luck we’ve had so far. Great drinks, and even better service. Got some great tips on where to eat whole in Austin, but I was more impressed by their food. Bar food at a much elevated level. We ordered the bacon tots to start, and they brought out an order of the Phillips steak eggrolls. Both were fantastic, very balanced and delicate, which you don’t exactly expect from bacon tots.

After those blew our mind, we doubled down with the garlic wedge fries, the Korean lamb ribs, and the Dan Dan noodles. Seriously great food, and great drinks. Can’t recommend them enough.

  7. We came here for a work event and it was fabulous. We had a large table to the side of the restaurant.

They made me a fabulous skinny margarita. Perfection for each one! Great bartenders.

Food is amazing. They had lots of gluten free options on the menu and all were unique and so tasty.

I recommend the mussels (the broth is divine) and the lamb ribs. My friends LOVED the ravioli.

I had the scallops for my main entree. Delish.

I highly recommend the Bonneville. Great drinks and menu!!

  8. Found this place seeking shelter from a rain storm. So happy! Unusually pleasant and helpful staff.
Food was fresh and excellent and beautifully presented. Thank you Kevin and Phillip for saving my day. Made a stormy day into a sunny experience!

  9. What a beautiful spot for a beautiful meal. We came here as part of a food tour and enjoyed it immensely. Right near the water, this clean, well-lit spot was so good.

We came early so it was near empty, but i could see this place filling fast. And when the food is this good, who can blame them? We did the bacon egg ravioli, which was amazing and different than anything else I had in Austin (and maybe around the world) and the white pizza, which was damn tasty.

The service was so friendly (take normal Austin friendliness and then multiply it by about two) and we drank and ate and had a great time here. If we had more time in Austin, I would have come back, no question.

  10. Such a pretty spot across from the lake. Big windows let the light and the street action in. And a really interesting menu of new foods to try. Bacon egg ravioli, home made light ravioli a filled with bacon, eggs and cheese were amazing! Peppercini and arugula while pizza was also amazingly light and fresh and delicious. The bonneville drink house special was so refreshing made with grapefruit.

This was one of our bike tour stops. If I was staying in the city longer I would be happy to return to try more as there are so many appealing things on this menu!
