G’Raj Mahal Cafe & Lounge is a Rainey Street restaurant & bar. The Graj offers the best of Austin’s atmosphere and attitude.

The restaurant features combination of traditional and innovative Indian comfort food coupled with local music in the heart of Rainey Street.

From our beginnings as a family-run food trailer operation, The Graj gained a reputation with a unique style and cozy ambiance that quickly became an Austin staple.

A rebuilt and custom designed an old house into a funky, beautiful space featuring: a large, gorgeous wooden deck in the back patio, a lovely stone front yard, comfortable indoor café seating, and a premium wine and beer bar.

  1. Ugh OMG this place is the best place I’ve been to for Indian food!!! They have Pani Puri which is amazing!! I can barely find it at any of the other restaurants here in Austin! The saag paneer was tasty too. Definitely worth the money

  2. Okay, seriously. I take back every comment I said about an elitist attitude from the staff. Everyone is 100% awesome, helpful and charming. Perhaps it was my own attitude about the place.

    But for serious.

The food is amazing, the beer selection is rad and the staff is stellar. Belly up to the bar and strike up a convo with anyone tending. Every last one of them greet us now with a smile. G’Raj truly feels like my “Cheers” at this point.

    Keep doing your thing, y’all.

  3. Vegetarians and gluten free folks will be glad to find this oasis in the meat-centric universe that is Austin. Nice indoor and outdoor seating options; if you sit outside at night you can watch the cars and pedestrians streaming by on this incredibly bustling street. Easy walk from most downtown hotels. The papadam was particularly good.

  4. Yes, yes, yes… Absolutely delicious. Flavors are wonderfully deep with richness and tang. We had the chicken korma and vindaloo – both were great. Mango lassi is made in house and there are large viewing Windows to see inside the kitchen.

fun atmosphere, great food. A bit pricey for Indian food but the quality was absolutely there.

    We will be back 🙂
