Llama’s Peruvian Creole Downtown Austin Food Truck brings authentic Peruvian flavors to the streets of Austin with delectable dishes from Chef Julio-Cesar Florez. Featuring traditional Peruvian pepper sauces of Lima and the Central Coast, Llama’s top quality, homemade dishes are always a hit.

As a native of Peru, owner Miguel Barrutia longed for the delicious cuisine so much that he had to open a place of his own. Drawing from the amazing dishes his mother, aunt and grandmother served up daily at home, Miguel is pleased to keep up a proud culinary tradition in Austin.

“This food truck offers some of the most traditional Peruvian dishes. Try the Lomo Saltado, Anticuchos (beef heart skewers) and the Ceviche when available.”
Ian

“Llama’s is a fairly new Peruvian trailer near Sixth Street in downtown Austin. If the aromas of cilantro lime rice aren’t enough to convince you, they are happy to give you a free sample – just ask!”

  1. My first time trying the Peruvian cuisine and that too on a food cart! Couldn’t wait to try his place out . Loved that they had vegetarian options ( they are nice enough to accommodate requests)! Must try the stir fry !

  2. It’s not easy working long shifts as a valet downtown. Perhaps one of the most difficult aspects is hunger. I was 4 hours into my shift one night and couldn’t take the growling voice in my stomach any longer. I needed to eat. But my options are limited due to my situation and I usually resorted to cheap yet greasy food trucks that typically cater to the drunk crowd. I couldn’t take another night though and I had an insatiable appetite for wings. Wingstop specifically, in fact. After much research I found a delivery company that could satisfy my strict demands. But then I saw the price: $28 for wings delivered. Oh no I can’t do that. Surge pricing is a cruel beast. So I turn to yelp. I find a gyro place that’s open, cheap, and with good reviews. A bit of a walk but seems to be worth it. So I go. And to my dismay it’s closed. So I turn to yelp again. At this point time is another restriction on my already tough food predicament. So I need something within a few hundred feet. I’m adventurous and at this point want anything (as long as it has above 4 stars because I’m not an animal). So I see it. Peruvian? Creole? I’m confused but still desperate. I couldn’t even pronounce what I ordered but it had sauce and onions and beef tenderloin on a French roll so I figure it can’t be that bad. Price is more than I wanted but it’s not like I have much to choose from at this point. I go back to my base at this point and go in head first into this curious meal. First bite is fantastic. Second bite solidifies it as a good meal. 3rd bite the sandwich falls apart, but it’s so good I’ll scoop it up with my hands if I have to. The beef tenderloin was so tender. Like a good filet. The onions, something I usually ask off on my burgers and such, were extravagant. The sauce…oh my goodness the sauce. All in all, I was extremely satisfied with my meal. Not only was it something that saved me in my circumstance, but it’s something I’d go to for lunch on a weekday. A place I’d take friends to (when it’s appropriate to take friends to a food truck) on a weekday for lunch. I’m actually thinking about going to Peru to visit the homeland of this mystical sandwich. I don’t usually give 5 stars, but good lord this thing was good.

  3. Really good Peruvian food–I have no complaints at all. My friend is Peruvian and wanted me to try the ceviche but they unfortunately didn’t have any the 2 times we had gone during our trip to Austin. Order anything on the menu and you won’t be disappointed! We got the lomo saltado, salchipapas con huacaina, and alfajores. All of them were great!

  4. Whether I order from a delivery service or sit in, the food quality is always excellent and consistent. They never forget the sauces and serve great quality meats and veggies! Also, the staff is super efficient and friendly! The tables and trash area is always clean when dining and there is music on which makes it a nice atmosphere. It’s nice when they do promotions and free food events. Best food truck in Austin!

  5. Holy sweet jumping Jesus, this is the best sanguche de lomo saltado (Peruvian steak sandwich with grilled onions and tomatoes) that I’ve ever had outside of South America. The fries were solid (and came with a side of aji amarillo FTW) and the service was quick and friendly. Will definitely be back for another one of these!

  6. Some of the most authentic Peruvian food I’ve had here in the states! Definitely worth a stop by! The service was quick and the prices are reasonable. The food came out hot and yummy!

  7. The food here is excellent and the prices are cheap. This is located between 6th and 7th, and has a few tables if you want to eat there. I would recommend taking your order to go however. Some shady characters kept walking by, and multiple people asked me for money. It’s Austin though, so that isn’t that unusual.

  8. I was conveniently downtown for SXSW, and this place had been on my list to try for ages! I came around 7 p.m. and there wasn’t a line at all.

I ordered the Lomo Saltado Sanguche with fries (#6), and used my check-in to get a free drink (Mexican Coke). The guy that placed my order was really nice! I waited for my food while sitting at the bar stool seating area that they had in front of the trailer. They also had a few tables around to eat at in front of the trailer. It took about 10 minutes or so for my food to come out, and the guy even came out and brought my order to me since it looked like I was struggling to get up from my chair. (Hehe!) So, service was A+.

As for the food, it was steaming hot and the fries were absolutely crispy. My sandwich was so flavorful and I just couldn’t stop eating it. My order also came out with two different sauces. One was spicy, but it was the perfect amount of spice. Overall, I absolutely loved it and would definitely come back again to try their other entrees!

  9. The location of this food truck is AMAZING.

Seeing a show at the Ritz? this is a GREAT place to get some food beforehand if you’re not feeling Alamo’s menu. The person cooking when we were there was super nice – he gave me great suggestions and even some samples to try things we didn’t order. That definitely earns them an extra star.

I got the Lomo Saltado (beef/veggies/rice) and some Alfajores (shortbread cookies with dulce de leche). The Lomo saltado was filling and satisfying, but kind of acidic. The alfajores were AMAZING – i kind of wish i had ordered a few more. The cookies are softer than i expected, and the tiny size of these cookies is perfect.

Can’t wait to go back and try some sandwiches!
