The Saxon Pub is one of Austin’s iconic live music venues. Opened in 1990, the Saxon has hosted well over 22,000 musical performances.

The Saxon has been the location for films, videos and countless live recordings. On any given night you might see a major celebrity from the film or music industry either having a beer or sitting in on stage jamming with the locals.

This award-winning listening room has helped launch the careers of several prominent entertainers. It is also known for booking some of the greatest music legends around, performing in an intimate atmosphere that Kris Kristofferson likened to “playing in his own living room.”

Whether it’s one of the incredible free weekday happy hour shows, a weekend matinee or a late night performance by the next big thing, find out why The Saxon Pub is Austin’s choice for live music!

The Saxon Pub is conveniently located on Austin’s historic South Lamar Blvd.

  1. $10 cover. What a bargain. Listened to The Watters and absolutely loved every minute of it. This is the way music should be.

  2. This is a rare gem for music aficionados, definitely designed for the listening experience. Not a dance hall or big party atmosphere. Great service and bar. Fantastic singer songwriters come through regularly. A don’t miss for those who live for the music

  3. Nice venue, decent acoustics. Tables and rest rooms were clean. Servers were polite and prompt. $3.50 for a club soda and $3.75 for a light beer. No food served. Definitely will be back.

  6. One of the best live music venues in Austin! Always great music and great sound! The door guy and bartenders are incredibly friendly. The Saxon Pub is a must for anyone who calls themselves a fan of live music!

  7. Live nearby but hadn’t been much — except when a friend was playing there a couple times. Another friend lured me there to see Lonelyland…they promised I’d see another side of Bob Schneider in this band (I’d seen his Christmas show & walked out — because he was “mailing it in”.) They were right! He was engaging, charming & EXTREMELY talented! They play there every Monday night & we’ve been twice since! 🙂 Now we want to see other bands there — this is a good venue to see anyone who’s there — it’s a true dark “honky-tonk” feel & a great staff who’ll wet your whistle with an array of bar favorites! A PLUS is that I can walk there!

  8. I know the Saxon Pub is an Austin legend and I felt grateful to get a chance to visit and listen to some really great talent: John Gaar and his band.

On a side note: my boyfriend who is also a musician born and raised in Austin gave me a brief history lesson on the Austin music scene and that made it even more special.

I was impressed with the variety of Mr. Gaar’s band, country, rock, blues and at times a little gospel like.

I really wasn’t sure what to expect since it’s such a small place but inside is so much fun and I believe they have happy hour every day so drinks are on the cheap side.

I’m planning on coming back to their next show on Cinco de Mayo and will check out other musicians in the future, too.

  9. One of the great live music venues left in Austin. No matter the day or time, you are sure to see some high quality music. My wife and I love stopping by for the happy hour bands, though we are often the youngest people in there by a decade or two.
